"Songs Forever" is the 20th album of my career, and the most personal one yet. It was the summer of 2004 when I came up with the idea of covering songs from the 80s and re-arranging them, and I haven't been able to get it out of my head since.
In April 2005, I started selecting and re-structuring the first songs with the help of my musical director and friend, Achim Brochhausen. Over the next few weeks and months, we tried and rejected lots of new ideas. I wanted the album to be versatible, so you could listen to it while sitting by a cracking fireplace, with a glass of cool white wine on the summer terrace, at a dinner with friends, or while driving across the country in the car, I hope - no, I know - that it will take you on a little private journey through time, stirring lots of memories and emotions along the way.
I'd like to thank everyone who has supported me along the way, and those who believe in this album as much as I do. First off, my management Allendorf Bremm and everyone at Edel Records, as well as all of my musicians and engineers in the studios.
Special thanks go out to Peter Ries and Achim Brochhausen. Without him, his creative ideas and his intuitive understanding of the music, "Songs Forever" never would have sounded the way I wanted it to. I'd also like to personally thank my family for always being there for me and lending their support throughout my career, despite having to get along without me a lot. Alexander, this one's for you!
