Concert
in Ulan-Baatar (Mongolia)
August 30, 2003
For
those who cannot imagine what Ulan-Baatar is and where does it take place,
I offer a short introduction: Ulan Baatar is the capital of Mongolia. Mongolia
takes place in Central Asia and borders upon Russia in its North and upon
China in its South. Its population is around 2, 35 millions. 700.000 of them
live in the capital. Mongolia is almost a mountainous country – 85% of its
territory is disposed 1000 meters altitude. The country has a strict continental
climate with quite frosty and dry winter and short summer.
On August 30, 2003 Thomas Anders and his band (Lars, Nick, Rob,
Renise, Bernd and Christian Geller) performed a concert in the open
air before the 22.000 of audience on the stadium of Ulan-Baatar. The foreign
groups perform there quite seldom. Few years ago "Smokie" came there,
but it was too long ago…
I and a couple of my friends decided to buy tickets. Before the concert
we had a chance to get acquainted with Thomas Anders and his band during the
dinner. We were sitting in a beer restaurant, which belongs to German guy.
It was live music there (unfortunately, it was not traditional Mongolian music,
which would be of interest). Suddenly Thomas and his band entered the restaurant,
and we were lucky to share the table with them. They’re very nice guys, I
should say!
On Saturday we went to the stadium to see the concert. The truly
professional sound equipment and lighting, and a very nice stage were striking!
Then, after the long waiting, the show had started.
I should say that I’m not a true MT-fan, but the show was made on
a high professional level, and we had a great mood!! Moreover – not only we
had it, but the band too! MT in Mongolia is something really incredible! The
Mongolians standing around knew all hits by heart. The band performed, as
far as I remember, 14 MT hits. During "YMHYMS", "Geronimo’s Cadillac" and
"Cheri Cheri Lady" the audience became completely mad!! Thomas Anders even
tried to say something on Mongolian, and he did it well!
After a few hits they played an encore for two times. The last one
was Medley, contained a few hits. In two hours the concert, unfortunately,
was over. At the end we had an outstanding firework.
In conclusion I’d like to say that I’m not a fan of MT, but the performance
was truly remarkable even for me.
