The
concert in the Kremlin (Moscow)
April 04, 2004
On
Sunday, 04.04.04 there was a concert of ex-MT voice and face – Thomas Anders.
It was held in the State Kremlin Hall. Before the concert Thomas Anders there
was a press-conference (read the report).
The concert started a bit later (next to nothing – 15-20 minutes). "I’m
here for the seventh time!" – said Thomas proudly while entering
the stage. "I know this hall by heart!"
Before the beginning there was a selling of the concert track lists
(it was the same as in St. Petersburg). In the beginning Thomas said that
he WILL sing MT songs, and in the breaks between the songs he signed carefully
all cards. He thanked for each bunch of flowers and examined every toy, given
by fans.
The guards acted quite severely (as usually in Kremlin). They didn’t let people
get up from their seats and dance; they suggested switching off the flashes,
and they prevented journalists from taking pictures after the second song.
Thomas brought his new band: a drummer, two guitarists, two keyboard
musicians and a girl – back vocal singer. He started the concert with two
songs from his newly recorded album "This time": "Tonight
is the night" and "Independent girl". Then he sang
MT-hit "You can win if you want", newly arranged.
The concert was not sold out (there were around 3/4 seats occupied),
but few thousands of people, who came to the concert, jumped up from their
seats in the beginning and appreciated the concert positively.
When Thomas approached the edge of the stage, his fans rushed to
him from everywhere, ignoring the guards completely. Besides the traditional
flowers they presented to him teddy-bears (which were saying "I
love you!"), chocolate bars and so on. Thomas spent so much time
for it and for the signing the cards, and finally the audience started to
whistle! Thomas was ought to apologize to the ladies: "I’m sorry,
I love all of you, but I am paid for the singing…" By the way,
Thomas joked a lot, and his jokes were to the point.
The program, consisted of 19 songs, was made to demonstrate almost
the whole new album, mixing it with old hits from time to time. During the
first part of the concert they were mixed equally. Nobody expected the appearance
of Olga Orlova on the stage during the song "King of love"!
She finished this song in duo with Thomas and told about her participation
(as an actress) in Thomas’ new clip. She called Thomas "the sexiest
man" and leaved the stage.
New Anders’ songs "Nothing’s gonna stop me now", "Live your
dream," "Paradise" sounded more lyrical, complicated and
interesting, than predictable MT-hits. Broke himself away from the rough commercial
limits, settled by Dieter Bohlen, Thomas indulged himself as a vocalist and
arranger. So, the concert was very integral and natural.
The more it came to the end, the more Thomas used his most effective "weapon".
This "weapon" helped teenagers throughout the whole Europe to fall
in love! There were "Atlantis is calling," "We take the
chance," "No face, no name, no number," "Sexy, sexy lover".
Thomas switched from his own works to the rhythms of Modern Talking and accelerated
the show’ speed. Perestroika’s coevals, "Brother Louie," (Thomas
represented it as his own brother) and "Cheri Cheri Lady," (Thomas
told us a secret – she’s a sister of "Brother Louie"!) – he
prepared for dessert. Fans expressed their delight by thunderous ovation and
dances in gangways.
Before singing "Maria" Thomas extended a hand to the audience
and asked one girl’s name. Her name was Anna. Thomas was not confused at all,
but he didn’t change the song’s name.
Thomas’ introduction of the band became a peak of the concert. He repeated
his joke (as he did in St. Petersburg), that he always forgets the name of
bass-guitarist. The leading guitarist presented a piece of "You’re
not alone" – rock version. The back-vocal girl demonstrated a pretty
strong voice – she improvised a jazz passage, and Thomas joined in unison
with her.
When Thomas said goodbye for the first time and disappeared behind
the stage, everyone howled loudly, and a few minutes later this howl turned
him back. He sang "YMHYMS" and "Night to remember," then
said goodbye again and finally disappeared…
On the whole, Thomas’ concert was really successful; it kept an easy feeling
of the spring.
An epilogue.
Among spectators we could see a dance-duo "Plazma." We noticed
them and asked for the interview. They gave it willingly.
