A concert in Tyumen.
June, 13, 2006, Tyumen’s state philharmonic society, Tyumen, Russia.

Story by Mirabella (Russia)

Hi to everyone! Now I’ll try to tell about Thomas’ concert in Tyumen in details.

So, on June, 13 the day of concert has come... On that day I had a lot to do, that’s why I obtained permission to be absent from work and went immediately to buy flowers for Thomas! I’ve bought a splendid rose for him. Then I went back home to dress up.

On 17:00 my sister came, and we decided to call taxi for being able to get to the philharmonic society faster. Well, we didn’t want to carry flowers on a bus for 40 minutes. On 17:30 we got in taxi. As it turned to be, our hopes to get there faster were groundless; we got stuck in traffic jam for a long time, and as a result could arrive at a place only in 18:20. No wonder that my time indication is so punctual; I was looking on my watch all the time. However, after entering the philharmonic society I stopped all regrets concerning being late. Nothing was put on sale in lobby; there was peace and harmony, even without any Thomas’ posters...

We went to the second floor, sat on sofas and started waiting for the invitation inside the hall. Suddenly a guitar trill ringed out of the door, and this trill would be matched for any rock-concert! It showed us that the rehearsal still continued. The people started to gather; there were some from other cities, and we could talk a bit with girls from Kurgan, who had flowers and vinyl MT discs – of course, for the desired Thomas’ signature!

It was already 18:45, but the rehearsal still continued. We could hear “Tonight is the night”, “No face, no name, no number”, “Win the race” and quiet German talk; I could hear only Thomas’ clear “Nicht”. Then everything has become quiet, and in 5-10 minutes we were let inside. We had 4th and 5th seats on the first row together with my sister; after taking them we were happy to find out that we’re right in the middle. Then the agonizing suspense has started...

There was a guy on a stage who pasted some papers to the floor. After 10 minutes the audience started to applaud and whistle, calling Thomas; someone even cried out something like “Come on!” and “Where are you’ Thomas?” And the guy with papers just laughed on it lively.

Finally the light died out, the colored floodlights started to shine, the intro began to play, and the musicians appeared on the stage. Then after the first chords of “Tonight is the night” Thomas appeared as well! He was met by the WILD applause! He wore black suit, white shirt and pretty... (running shoes? Slippers?), colored black and white. Together with the suit it looked appallingly!

I was a bit (a lot?) shocked: Thomas was so near... I’d like to tell that he looks MUCH better alive than on photos or videos. He’s so handsome!!!!! Fortunately, he was clean-shaven!!! After “Tonight is the night” there was “Independent girl” without stopping.

The track-list was the same as in Yekaterinburg. After “Independent Girl” Thomas greeted the audience and said that he has visited our city for the first time, and while driving on a car he could look around a bit. He had a very nice mood, joked and laughed a lot. Unfortunately, I relied on sister, but she forgot her digital camera at home. It was SO pity, because the guard was quite nice and there were no limitations for taking pictures! After the third song people grew bolder and rushed to present flowers to Thomas. There were lots of flowers, and it was very pleasant for me. There were almost roses, and after each song Thomas received 3-5 bunches!

After all Thomas received a letter and few gifts! Then the girls from Kurgan presented him flowers and asked to sign their discs. Thomas smiled, said “Ok!” and did it. Then people grasped that it’s possible to ask for signatures, and after every song there was a line of 5-10 people appearing near the stage. Thomas didn’t play up and signed everything.

I remember a 50-years old gentleman who presented a bunch of flowers, asked for signature and then shook hands with Thomas. It was so cute! No one supposed to take autographs; that’s why nobody prepared anything for that, and Thomas had to sign passports, military cards and even money bonds!!! One girl presented a rose to each musician of the band; they didn’t expect that and were very surprised.

Thomas’ musicians, especially guitarists, are so nice! They inspired and invigorated audience. Of course, Thomas told about his knowledge of Russian: “Thank you, goodbye, for a good health, vodka”. Guitarists suggested to him: “Beer, what is your name, you’re welcome” and so on. It caused a storm of cheers; some cried out: “Thomas, you’re fine fellow!”

In the middle of concert a lot of people lifted up and started to dance! There were “Cheri cheri lady” and “YMHYMS” for an encore. The last song was sung together with the hall, and it was quite nice. Everyone understood that in a few minutes the concert will be over... Then Thomas said “Goodbye”, waved his arm and disappeared. For two minutes people continued applause, hoping to see him again, but alas! He didn’t come. However, his musicians came and made a bow!

One of musicians threw a towel to the audience, and it turned to be so funny... As I think, he supposed that people would catch it with delight, but they just rushed away. As a result, the towel was taken away by a worker. Well, as one would expect from our city, we’re very quiet and not fanatic at all. However, if the towel would be thrown by Thomas himself, it’s quite possible that someone would take it.

I cannot help but mention that I was admired by our guards. They were so polite! (I was on MT concert in 2002 in Kremlin, and I have something to compare with!) When the crowd of 15 people gathered near the stage for getting a signature, the guardian just approached and asked politely to come one by one in order to free the gangway. The only thing was pity that the hall was filled up for only 80% and people were asked to go down from balconies and take seats in parterre. But the concert was really wonderful! It lasted for 2 hours, but it seemed to me that it passed too quickly...

After coming out we had no desire to go home, and we decided to walk a bit – you know, we were overfilled with emotions and wanted to calm down. Then we noticed a small and fishy crowd near the escape way (there were 7 people there). Well, we approached and joined them. Everyone was waiting for Thomas. There were some smoking guardians as well. And in 10 minutes their walkietalkies “woke up”: “Attention! All set!”

They rushed to the door immediately, and we followed them; Thomas came out wearing sunglasses. Someone cried out: “Thomas! Thomas!” But he had no reaction and turned to the car. The fans cooled down immediately, and no one tried to attack the car. The only girl with a heart-shaped box of sweets approached and knocked the car’s window gingerly, repeating: “Thomas, take it, please!” And... oh, the door opened miraculously, and the box was graciously taken! Then the black “Audi” got off with a jerk and went to the hotel...

So, this wonderful day turned to be that way. I’ll tell you – deep in my soul I hope that Thomas will return to our city again... So, this is my story, and I hope you’ll like it. Don’t judge me too much; this is my first written report about the concert. And I’d like to add... it was so sad for me that there were only two songs from the new album on the concert! Thomas’ performing of “Cry for help” and “Have I told you lately” was so heartfelt! And it was obvious that he was singing them with a special pleasure! We went to present him flowers right after “Cry for help”; Thomas performed it SO sincerely...
