Thomas Anders Fanclub Party 1991

On the last Saturday of December in Koblenz (Germany) a crowd of people near one of the most nice concert halls of a city astonished the passers-by. The most curious ones stopped and asked: "What’s going on?" It was a serious matter for curiosity – the crowd was estimated at thousands and was talking on different languages.

I’ve met my friends from Germany, Great Britain, Belgium, France, Switzerland and Scandinavia. Strangely enough, that the common language was German, although almost everyone knew English.

The third international fan club meeting with Thomas Anders (ex-MT soloist) have started. It happens in Koblenz each year. In 11 o’clock in the morning everyone could easily enter the hall – with one special condition: one had to carry a plastic membership card with a number of his membership. Even after you show it still they looked at the computer, and, if everything was OK, you could find yourself in the desired atmosphere, for which you collected money during a year!

In the hall everyone was met by Thomas’ best friend, Guido Carp, a nice man. Thanks to his incredible efforts all meetings are very successful, and even newcomers feel good.

I think that such kinds of events are truly unique because of a great number of foreigners from all around the world, who don’t know each other, but still feel familiar and close to each other.

We had enough time to everything: to meet each other, to get acquainted, to embrace friends and to exchange Christmas gifts. Moreover, one could even make his performance on the stage! Anyway, at 3 o’clock the most long-awaited man, who was (frankly speaking) the main goal of our meeting, approached on a splendid limousine. Shining with smile, dressed with an impeccable taste, he appeared on the stage before his fans and after the short greeting started to answer the questions (however, they could be asked only by those who stood near the stage). Fortunately, I was lucky to ask a question, but I couldn’t devise something wise, and, of course, I had found the last information in the magazines "Bravo" and "Pop rocky."

Then we had a concert, souvenirs and screams of delight of those who could manage to approach the idol. There were autographs, drinks and different snack.

The meeting had finished in the evening, and Thomas, followed by cars filled with fans’ gifts, departed home to his wife, who’s got sick inopportunely (she usually takes part in these meetings).

Someone immediately (as in USSR) rushed in pursuit, but the majority returned back to their hotels.

The owners of Koblenz’ hotels were completely happy – only once in a year they had to hang doorplates "Sorry, no vacancies" because of fans’ influx! And after a while the conversations, news sharing, talking and listening to music had continued. And tears also. It’s so pity to separate!

I couldn’t stand to visit Thomas’ homeland and not to take a look at his house. So, next day we tried to find Zelsigstrasse, 16. But we failed. The house was sold recently, and Thomas had bought a new one, somewhere in the country, as one of neighbors said, "in a secret place, which will never be discovered by fans". Of course, we have found it! The citizens, who knew Thomas well, helped us.

It was a tall black building, surrounded by a fence. All atmosphere of that place, including doorplates "Take care of dogs!" almost everywhere, evening time and the strange lull, interrupted by a bell dinging – almost everything was awful!

In order to be assured, I asked a neighbor, if it was a right place.

"Yes, they live here since not long ago. We wondered ourselves! Please, don’t be scared and visit them! He and his wife are very wonderful and hospitable people!"

We had no doubts in it; however, we didn’t resolve to approach more than 5 meters. We decided to accomplish another part of our plan – to visit Thomas’ mom and dad.

His parents’ house, which was located ten kilometers apart, was totally opposite: white and elegant. Even in winter time – it was self-explanatory. It also represented its owners…

A friendly beige lap-dog Deny rushed towards us, and Peter, the owner of house, introduced us to his wife.

Thomas’ mother, Helga, can bake very nice cookies (maybe, his son inherited his cooking abilities from her). Moreover, they have much in common – gestures, face expressions, smiling, talking style. It is true, that "the apple reminds the apple tree". Thomas’ father, ex-burgomaster, has retired, but still continues to work, because he cannot imagine his life without working.

I was strongly amazed by reality after all articles about Thomas’ parents! It was completely no ostentatious pomposity or arrogance, described by all papers! These two faces still always on my mind! They’re so good and kind! I’ll never forget them! It’s a pity, of course, that I was not brave enough to knock Thomas’ black door… Maybe, everything could be possible?

The true kindness usually hides behind the severity…
