Press-conference, devoted
to the premiere of the show “Fantasy” in Moscow

Photoalbum

The conference was held in a very light hall – however, without a fillip of a piano; it was a bit disappointing. The star came a bit late, that’s why they’ve started without him. They were speaking about “Holiday on Ice”, about the audience and the show itself. And with Thomas’ coming everyone revived immediately.

- Thomas, can you tell us a few words, like “hello” to Moscow?

ÒÀ: Yes, I’m very happy to be here! So, we really have a short time, because my plain was delayed today, and the traffic in Moscow is very-very special. When you calculate one hour, maybe you will need two hours; so, sometimes it happens. But, anyway, I’m very happy and very pleased to be here, and I promise that you will have a wonderful show tonight. Thank you very much!

- The next question concerning the music – probably, to Thomas: how did you compose the music and how many musical hours were created for this project? Tell us more about music: what is it about? And how it was created?

ÒÀ: About my music or music in general?

- About your music in this project.

ÒÀ: Two years ago I was called from the “Holiday on Ice” and was asked if I maybe could think of writing a title track, a special song for the show. I was very surprised about that. I was asking, what kind of song it should be, because I didn’t know this new show and its concept. And they said to me: “Do whatever you want; it should be a ballad, something to do with dreaming”.

And I started to think about it. What is in your mind when you have ice-skaters? How do they move; their slipping movements. And it should be music as well! I have started to compose the song, something to do with love or lost love, whatever. And suddenly I saw my son, and he was playing around in his own fantasy! (And it was a step; I knew that the show was called “Fantasy”) He was all in his fantasies, in his dreaming and in his own world. And all of a sudden I’ve found out that we, adults, have real problems with that; we’re so concentrated on our own life, on our business. We have our own schedules and every day we don’t have time. And I thought that maybe we have forgot how to dream... It’s so easy! You just have to dream; every person can do that!

Guten Tag, Thomas! At the end of April your first solo-DVD will be put on sale. Why didn’t you include in it the most famous clips, I mean “Soldier” and “Can’t give you anything”?

ÒÀ: Oh yeah, I know. This is very easy to explain. They didn’t find tapes!

- Thomas, there’re a lot of wonderful figure-skaters around you; can you skate yourself? Have you ever tried to tutor? Can you stand on skates?

ÒÀ: I don’t skate. You know, sometimes a few years ago we were going around with friends having some fun, but it was not professional. It was very stupid, to be honest...

And in the show – you can’t think about it; the pleasure that we get seeing them is really a hard work, and all the skaters are really-really working every day, and they’re very professional. And they have no time at all even to think of giving me lessons!

- Thomas, are you acquainted with Russian music? Do you have friendly relations with any Russian singers?

ÒÀ: No, I’m not so familiar with your music. Sometimes when I’m here I watch your video channels, but I don’t understand the language. You know, in Europe and in Western part of Europe we know Alla Pugacheva. And two years ago I did a video shooting with Olga Orlova. We were on Ibiza, and I did my new song on the video, and she was a part of that video.

- Thomas, good afternoon! I’d like to thank you for the wonderful album. It was a real gift for your fans!

You were planning to record a duet with Cliff Richard; what is the destiny of this project? Will you do it in the future?

ÒÀ: You know, we work at the same record company. And we were thinking about this, because I have in my album his song “Some people”, which was a hit #1 in Germany. I did a very special version of it. But we recorded the album in December, and he was touring in Asia in December, so we didn’t get along time by.

- There’re lots of songs which were not included in your albums, and which were performed by you on the concerts. Are you planning to publish them in a “special fan edition” for your fans to make them happy?

ÒÀ:
No.

- Thomas, it is not your first visit to Russia. What kind of impression do you have from Russia and its people?

ÒÀ: The first time when I came here was 1988. This is really a long time ago. And your country has changed so much! As for me, I really like to come here. I’m so familiar with the airport! I know it like the Frankfurt airport. It’s always great to come here and to talk to the people; from my point of view I found out that you still have your own identity and you’re very open-minded to the rest of the world.

- The question concerning your last album. You have recorded it in a very unusual style for a pop-singer. Why did you choose it, and will you continue to create in this style? What do you think concerning the fact, that lots of fans were a bit negative towards this style?

ÒÀ: First of all, I really like this style of music. I listen to this style of music at home, and for me it was important to do such an album. This is the kind of music I like; it doesn’t mean that all the time I will make the same style of music. As for me, I play the music for almost twenty years, being successful with pop-music all the time. Give me the chance just to do another kind of music that I really like! I’m sure that some admirers are disappointed, but, you know, to do the same kind of music during the complete life is a bit boring for me. I’m an artist, and am looking for developments. And it is very important for me. Maybe, the admirers like the other album more, but I’m pretty sure I have the new people coming, and they say: “This is so fantastic what you did! We’ve never expected that kind of music!”

- Thomas, good evening. Welcome to Russia! You have written a very beautiful ballad, “Just Dream” – as I was told, it is very beautiful. But I didn’t have a chance to listen to it yet, and, probably, I’ll not attend the show tonight because of lack of time. I’d like to hear at least a couple of its notes from you! Can you perform it, and we’d enjoy this moment a bit? Thank you.

ÒÀ: This is a great trick, you know! This is really smart!

- Yeah, I’ve thought a lot of it!

ÒÀ: You will have the chance to listen to this song every night on the show, even if I’m not in. But especially for you I can do some lines... (sings the beginning of refrain) More? (finishes the refrain with a loud applause of the audience) You can hear the whole song tonight.

- The last question: Thomas, you have been traveling a lot. I suppose, you have attended some exhibitions or operas. What of the cultural life of planet have you seen lately? What would you suggest for those who will go there as well?

ÒÀ: Oh, you know, I’ve seen so many things! To be really sure, at that moment I don’t have time to go to the shows. I’m working at the album constantly since September last year. I’m working really hard, every day about twelve or fourteen hours. So, I’m working very hard for seven months, but I feel that I’m working for ages! Sometimes what I’m trying to do is to buy some DVD-s from the shows just to get an inspiration from the shows for my work.

- Did you see a musical “Mamma Mia”?

ÒÀ: Not yet. I should, I know. I saw a special show in Germany. They did some parts from musicals “We will rock you!” and “Mamma Mia”, so I’ve got an impression out of “Mamma Mia”. You know, to be really honest, when I have one day off, I really like to spend it with my family, not in the shows.
